Reserves

In addition to the number of participants to be included in a study, a number of additional participantswill be screened to be ready to be included in case of any no-show or withdrawn participants on the day of admission.

These ‘additional’ participants are known as reserves. Reserves are there to ensure we dose the correct number of participants to complete the research objectives. Following screening and confirmation of screening results, all participants admitted to the unit for planned dosing are classed as reserves until just before dosing. The safety of participants in clinical trials is our primary concern and we will not dose someone for whom the risk is increased following receipt of pre-dose procedures after admission to the clinical trials unit.

Participants who agreed to take part in the study but have not been dosed and have acted in accordance with the rules set out in the participant charter will be given preferential status for any upcoming trials where their profile meets another study's requirements.

It is important to understand that a place on a study cannot be guaranteed and an invitation to be screened does not oblige Richmond to include you, or to make any payments to you. Confirmation at the screening stage does not entitle you to a dosing place.

Please note that participants who are found to be positive for alcohol, smoking (where applicable), or drugs of abuse, will not be entitled to the reserve payment.
